"But God gives us more and more grace, power of the Holy Spirit, anointing to meet evil tendencies. That is why God says; He set Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace anointing to those who are humble enough to receive it." James 4:6. Paraphrased. Today many in the church are seeking a touch from God, an experience of divine power that will lift them to a new level of God's anointing. Yet, not always in this desire for more, are people able to calm their frustration or satisfy their need. In turn, out of desperation many become prone to grabbing anything that comes their way without discerning what is right or what is wrong; what is God or what is flesh; what is emotions or what is emotionalism! In this study, we want to reveal a truth that will assist us as believers to correctly understand, then in turn experiencing God's anointing everyday. A truth that we may realize is not as difficult to grasp as we have imagined or been taught. Misunderstanding the Spirit It seems that one of the most difficult things for a believer to learn is how to yield to the Spirit of God! *From the time of our new birth there are many obstacles within the mind that are contrary to the ways of the Spirit. Because of this, we at times fight against God. Now this does not always come from an attitude of rebellion but a lack of knowledge and understanding on how to submit to God's system of life. Every believer, because of the Spirit within has a God given desire to submit, an unction or anointing to please and do what is right concerning God and His Kingdom. Yet even though we may have a desire to do what is right, it is possible as a believer to do the wrong thing or be in error without knowing it; meaning we can be yielded to wrong attitudes, ideals, traditions and teachings of men. One of the greatest deceptions in the church is the belief that because we have the Spirit of God within, we cannot err! This belief alone proves that we are already in error or deception. Now there are times in our hunger for truth we can miss the most obvious or have a tendency to look for some deep profound revelation, in turn causing us to overlook the simplicity of God's Word. This can and does happen in our search for the understanding of God's anointing! Anointing and Grace The anointing is simply God's character or personality flowing in and through us to heal, deliver, strengthen and enable us to live the life of the Spirit. It's effects can differ in each individual person depending on personality, attitude and needs. Remember the anointing is likened to oil and oil will flow through any opening no matter how small, ridged or seemingly closed it may be. God's anointing is oil that will find it's way into the child of God's heart, no matter what condition it is in! The anointing can also be identified with grace. Besides grace to save us, there is grace to strengthen, deliver and enable us to live and walk the life of Christ. Titus 2:11 & 12 says "For the grace of God has come forward (appeared) for the deliverance of sin and the eternal salvation for all mankind. It has trained us to reject and renounce all ungodliness..." Grace here is Christ the anointed one or the anointed! The anointed one is the grace given and grace is the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage. It is the power that enables and trains us to reject ungodliness and live discreet, devout, upright lives in this present world. Yielding to Grace Anointing One truth that is vital to accessing and understanding God's anointing, which can also mean grace! Is yielding! Yielding means, "To give up, to surrender or submit. To concede and admit God's Word is the genuine truth." At a quick glance, the word yield may seem simple. Yet putting it to practice in our life can be a task in and of itself. Yielding is not something we do automatically but is something that must be learned. And because this subject has sometimes been taught improperly, many believers miss out on a key to God's anointing grace. A good example for yielding is the doctrine of healing! If we do not yield to the fact that God heals today and that it is a promise and covenant right to and for the believer, we may accept sickness as God's way of discipline or punishment. This crucial mistake of understanding could cause premature death in a life God desires to use to present the Good News Gospel. To take it a step further if we refuse to yield to gifts of grace or ministry gifts given and spoken of in Ephesians 4:11, we could be tossed to and fro by every gust of teaching; wavering with every changing wind of doctrine; tricked by errors and being continually mislead. Friend, these are not words to take lightly. We must be aware of the times we live in and if we desire to see change and to experience all of God, we must allow His ever-flowing anointing grace to take precedence in our life. The unequaled way of settling this is to learn how to yield to the Spirit of God! Simply, we need truth on how to yield because it is very dangerous to yield to just anything that comes our way. We must know what is God and what is not! And this starts in our knowledge and understanding of God's anointed Word, through an attitude of yielding! Hosea 4:6a says, "My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge..." In the Hebrew text this can also mean, Revelation. Which means Supernatural communicated truth or the genuine from God. I believe all believers want the genuine, the real thing! But if we cannot discern the real thing from the wrong thing, then we may be yielded to darkness. Yield to Light or Darkness There is only two ways a child of God can yield. The first is God who is absolute light. The second is Satan who is absolute darkness. There is no in-between. We either yield to light or to darkness. The good news is we are in Christ and have been translated out of darkness and into His marvelous light. "...that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfection's of him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."1 Peter 2:9. In other words, we do not have to be controlled or dictated by darkness. We are free from its power! Free from it's jurisdiction! And free from its condemnation and guilt! Friend, darkness once ruled you. The taskmaster owned you. But through the cross Jesus paid your debt for your freedom! He delivered you from the chains of slavery by His death on the cross. You are no longer shackled to the chains of Satan but have been translated into the freedom of His Son's light. Yet even though we are positioned and secured in the light, we must have an attitude of yieldedness to the light. We must not allow darkness to dictate or draw us out of the light in our temporal life, meaning In other words we must keep yielding to the light, which is Christ in us! By doing this we will not live a life of habitual sin but walk in His ever empowering anointing grace. Romans 6:16a says, "Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to any one to do his will you are the slaves of him who you obey?" The word surrender can also be translated "yield." In other words even though we are in the light through our position in Christ, we can still yield our members as instrument to darkness in our temporal life. Simply who we yield to, whether God or Satan, is critical to the progressive work and flow of anointing grace to live out the life of Christ in our temporal walk. Ponder carefully, even though we know the anointing dwells within us by the Holy Spirit, we must also realize the more we yield, the stronger the anointing. The opposite effect is true when we yield to darkness. So again it is critical that we know who or what we are yielding to. Yielding Our Bodies As Instruments "Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions. Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness." Romans 6:12-13. The Word says to offer and yield yourselves to God. This is not talking about being resaved, that has been secured in the cross. But the word offer means to express readiness or to present for acceptance. Simply as we yield ourselves with a readiness to accept God's anointing grace (as believers), we will begin to manifest the results and working of His anointing in our life. When the Word talks about an instrument, its talking about an implement used of God. Now an instrument in and of itself is powerless without someone using it. Concerning us, God must be yielded to as the master controller, meaning an instrument that is yielded to God in total dependency, allowing Him and Him alone to control our lives! As an earthly example, a guitar in and of itself can not make music! But the moment someone skilled plays it, it becomes an instrument of comfort and joy. A hammer alone cannot create; yet in the hand of a craftsman it can change our landscape, and bring happiness to a family for generations. The tool of a surgeon is cold steel, yet in the hand of a professional doctor, it becomes an instrument of life. It works the same concerning us. We must come to a place of yieldingness or yielding ourselves as instruments for God's use. Allowing us to be skillfully handled by the master. Allowing Him to create, carve and mold us into lifesavers. Allowing His life, personality and anointing grace to come into our atmosphere, in turn creating in us fertile ground for fruits of righteousness. Instruments For Sanctification Romans 6:19 says, "I am speaking in familiar human terms because of your natural limitations. For as you yield your members [and faculties] as servants to impurity and ever increasing lawlessness, so now yield your bodily members [and faculties] once for all as servants to righteousness (right being and doing) [which leads] to sanctification." As a believer we are already sanctified in our position, but temporally we are working out our salvation daily. One way to allow sanctification to work in our life daily is through yielding! We must understand that in order to be used by God we must also yield to God. The problem is we try to be master controller of ourselves and out side of God as master controller we will not produce the god kind of life but dead works. When I talk about yielding, I am not referring to a works mentality of legalism, meaning to find favor or appeasing God. I am speaking of a simple act of our will to allow God to be God in our lives. Friend, God is not trying to help the believer to do things for Him but to do the works of Him through the believer. Yielding more to ourselves than to God causes any failure we experience in our life! So even though we may be saved and secure in Christ, we can still choose to stop the working of God's anointing grace by not having an attitude of yieldingness. God best is that we yield. This is one of the most spiritual things we can do for our Father. He desires us to be living sacrifices with a yielded mind and will towards Him. Yielding is a simple act of our will and without our cooperation, He cannot extend more of His anointing grace to and from us. To decide to yield is a decision from our heart. It must be a personal decision, not emotions or impulsiveness but a decision of faith. Today we have opportunity to make a decision, a choice to yield! To allow Him to be master Controller and take us to a new level of His anointing grace.
