Chapter 1

The Source of Peace

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and the government will be upon his shoulder and his name will be called wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace."*
As we view the unsettled world today we see that one of the greatest cries of humanity is world peace, since September eleventh two thousand and one our world has changed dramatically and from the pit of smoldering ashes and death of the twin towers, humanity is now tumbling uncontrollably into a dark turbulence of an unseen sinister vortex with no end.
Sadly humanity has given itself the audacious power to destroy the very life of this planet, with the flick of a switch this world could be no more, a power that was never meant to be bestowed or entrusted to any human being.
The governments of this world are scrambling to think tank some kind of peace as an answer to human stability, ideologies that are accelerating one world government through globalization which is growing and maneuvering by taking advantage of the fear imbedded in our society.
Man through a dark higher intelligence thinks that if they could somehow control the entire world’s riches, armies, security and economic system, peace would be the bi-product and in turn humanity would never have to worry again.
It is absolutely amazing that man can walk on the moon and see the preciseness of the universe, discover and unleash the atom, invent amazing technologies, discover cures and build glorious cities yet cannot find, conjure, build, or even manufacture true peace.
The answer is simple; the problem lies in the nature of man and it self centered humanistic worldly thinking which only creates an underlying elite mentality of a Darwin theory only the fittest survive, and one can not get much lower then this.
In this sad fact of reality we are deteriorating at a rapid pace; the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, the powerful are more powerful and the week are slowly being put to death. Yes, this should and is the reason for the heart of humanity to wax cold towards the future of planet earth.
Because of this chaotic unrest; man in his quest for peace is doing everything humanly possible to search the realm of the flesh for answers, but they are oblivious to the fact that it is not the flesh or the exterior of man that he will find true peace, or the understanding to the problems of the world, but that it is the need for man to turn to the realm and understanding of the spirit that true peace and contentment comes.
From the realm of the Spirit the message of peace is simple, it is meant for the heart of man first, and it is in this heart of man through peace that life as it is will change. In other words, man must first find peace with God.
God has never been moved by the outward appearance or performance of man but is moved first by a people who are looking to establish and understand peace with Him.
God longs for humanity to look to his direction and respond to His care and what he has accomplished through redemption.
He desires humanity to desire His ways and purpose, and to understand that He has already established peace to all men.
If humanity could see but a glimpse of His awesome peace, an act of His unconditional love, they could not help but respond toward this great King. They would quickly realize that He, through redemption, has sworn by Himself to give this world everything that pertains to life and godliness and this includes working of peace!
God is the creator of all peace, with no darkness, no confusion, for His word has said, "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace." These words along give us a standard of what the world is not.
Confusion comes from the dark side of man’s flesh, it knows no peace and in its effort to blind the eyes to the truth of God's peace, it presents many counterfeits in a deceptive way that leads only to confusion and false hopes.
Just drive down to the nearest mall, the temple of false hopes and dreams a place where the flesh can be tantalize and driven to debt.
Turn on the advertising box in ever living room and be memorized by slick deception of desires pulling and tugging and directing a generation in to the clutches of, “It all about me”.
Can we really find peace in the riches of our land that is driven by corporate profit, in the security of our job that hold no loyalty to its labors who have become just another number to a bottom line.
Can we find peace in our relationships where marriage vows no longer exists and divorce is over fifty percent? Where families no longer see each other because both parents hold down two jobs to keep up to inflation and try to hang on to the American dream.
Are we looking to the government of our nation, a system that has no resemblance to the forefathers but a den of money changers that have been corrupted to the lust of money and power, no longer for the people by the people but lobbyist with garments of priest bearing salvation at the price of thirty pieces of silver.
Can we find this peace in the great spiritual leaders of our land, the ones of great stature and prestige where prosperity is now the main doctrine, where churches and ministries are rated on size, power and influence?
The question we need to ask is how do we discern this smoke screen, how do we awaken from the slumber and numbness that has over taken our soul and allowed the flesh to control?
This is where the journey must first begin, a journey that will lead us to true contentment and tranquility, a place that is absolute real, with no false walls, traps or mirrors, a place built and settled by an infinite caring God through the work of an obedience man, the man Jesus.
"It was God (personally present) in the Son, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with himself, not counting and holding against men their trespasses, but canceling them and committing to us the message of reconciliation of the restoration of God's peace.”*
To reconcile means God has restored peace to all humanity and through the cross has blotted out sin and in turn imparted the Spirit of His Son, the Spirit that bring forth peace and reconciliation.
In the book of Luke chapter one, an angel appeared and said, "Behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."* They then praised God by saying, "And on earth peace, good will toward men."*
The message brought forth by this proclamation was not peace between men; it was the message first of peace between God and man and it came through the shed blood of the Son. Understand that man was separated from God through the fall of Adam and was destined to punishment, but the Son took the nature of this sin upon Himself at the cross, He suffered judgment and wrath and made a way of reconciliation so mankind could have peace with God.
"For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him whether things on earth of things in heaven having made peace through the blood of His cross."*
By this, God is no longer angry at you or the world, His anger and judgment has been appeased and satisfied through the bloods perfect sacrifice, He has brought peace between man and God, so truly He is the Prince of Peace!
"Peace I leave with you; my own peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled."*
Today the barrier between God and man is broken, by the Son we have appropriated His peace; in turn this allows us to move the working of His peace into our temporal life. In other words, to establish peace to live in this world one must first find peace through the Son, this is inner peace and is the first foundation on the road to world peace! Simply, If man does not first find and understand peace within God, he can never find true peace with others or the system that governs it.
This is where humanity has the problem; they assume that if they make peace with a nation, they will be safe. If they make peace with their neighbor, there will be no stress. If they kill the entire terrorist population there will be peace. Now this may seem emotionally right, but if God's peace is not in the other nation or neighbor and since God does not go around killing people, there is no foundation for real peace, because only God's peace can create stability.
So in order for us to walk the life of peace on earth, we must first get peace within and this source is only found in God. Simply, if we do not know God, then we truly do not know peace or will ever have true peace.
Friend, if you know God than peace is your spiritual birth right and you possess the key to access all of its workings and all that is needed is to believe it by faith, because it is impossible for you to make it in and of ourselves.
"But now in the son you who once were far off have been made near by the His blood. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of division between us, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace."*
Through this new and wonderful experience we have been accepted, no longer alienated by the middle wall of division (sin). We are joint-heirs with the Son and taken from the dunghill and seated as royalty in heavenly places.
God is not the enemy; He is not the problem but the solution to a life of peace within and out. God shows no favoritism, peace is not for a chosen few, it is the fruit of peace for all on planet earth.

Chapter 2

The fruit of Peace

"But the fruit of the Spirit, the work which His presence within accomplishes, is love, joy, gladness and peace..."*

Our first question is, what is the fruit of the Spirit and what is its purpose and what does it have to do with finding peace? The fruit of the Spirit is the characteristics or attributes of God working within us to manifest spiritual fruit in our temporal life.
When we eventually see God, He imparts to us the life of His Spirit. Our human spirit which was once dead to God, at that moment of acceptance awakens and is recreated in the Son. Instantly the engrafted spirit is alive making us a new individual altogether and established in the fruit of His Spirit.
According to Vines Expository Dictionary, the fruit of the Spirit is "the unity of the character of God reproduced in us."
So we can understand when the Son said, "Peace I leave with you my own peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you."*
Friend, the instant you were regenerated, you were put into right standing with God, declared and seen as righteous with entrance into His presence without guilt, condemnation or feeling inferior. Now as a son you have a new inner nature, attributes, character and have become part of the temple of God.
You are simply God possessed, filled with His power and ability. All knowledge of His ways and thoughts have been imparted to your recreated spirit, your inner man knows God and is of God. This is why the scriptures tell us we have no need that anyone should teach us because we have the comforter and teacher dwelling within.
The fruit of His Spirit has now become ours, yet even though we have this marvelous gift, we still struggle to have peace in our temporal life. Why? Because we struggle with the flesh and its attitudes, ego, and a life time of environment abuse in this world.
There are times our emotions are like mountains and valleys, close to God one day and not the next. There are times when we've felt the joy of our experience and at times of an incredible war within our members; peace at time seems very fluid.
Paul of the bible said "For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. I have the intention and urge to do what is right, but no power to carry it out. For I fail to practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do, are what I am ever doing."*
Paul is simply saying, I am warring against myself, I know what is right, yet I struggle to do so. So what is his problem? Well, it is the same old problem we all have, our soul or mind which carries our will and intellect did not change. Understand that we are a three part being, spirit, soul and body. Although our human spirit was regenerated, justified and made peace with God, we have to work out our new reality in the soul daily.
We may ask, what is the working out daily of our new reality? It is getting our soul to line up and come into harmony with our regenerated spirit. When this begins to happen, it produces understanding which is called revelation. Simply the soul or mind, which carries the will and intellect, will begin to correlate or change, enabling us to submit to the will of God and His peace!
The bible reads, "Do not be conformed to this world or age, fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs, but be transformed (changed) by the entire renewal of your mind by its new ideals and its attitude, so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in His sight for you."*
Friend, the soul is the battleground between the flesh and the spirit. As our mind is renewed through the word of God, we will then move to the good, acceptable and perfect will. The Word of God is critical to the saving of the soul and it is the Word of God that will enable us to discern what is from our spirit, our soul or carnal mind (flesh).
The bible reads, "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”* The bible again says, "For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power making it active, operative, energizing, and effective; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and the immortal spirit, and of joints and morrow of the deepest parts of our nature, exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thought and purposes of the heart."*
The key to this whole verse is that it is our heart God looks at, in the same way peace is in the heart by regeneration, the heart of the person must have revelation of truth before it can be manifested outwardly, if not, it is not peace but a false sense of security. This is why knowledge of God's Word is so vital to understanding the working of peace.
God’s word is the two edged sword that divides what is soul and what is spirit, yet the word is also what reunites the soul and spirit to understanding God’s will. For example, when we were of the world, our human spirit lined up with our soul, both were going the same direction and that was dictated by carnality. One day along life’s path someone presented the word of God and at that moment those word came in and split our spirit from our soul, our spirit then followed after God but our soul was following it’s old directives, this of course set the internal warfare in our heart.
Now to explain, the heart it is the middle ground or we can say the setting of the battlefield between Soul and Spirit. This is how we can have a good heart or a bad heart. Yes even believers can have one or the other and that is why we need to let the word penetrate to the dividing line of the breath of life.
We may ask, when does the battle stop and how do I get the victory? The only way possible is by correlating our soul to our renewed spirit and getting our carnal mind in line with God’s thinking. This is done by renewing our mind through the word of God, which brings revelation or understanding and in turn will help us live out of inheritance of peace.
Please understand we need to be who we are within, that is living out of our new person. Remember if the adversary (flesh) can get control of our mind, then our spirit will be powerless and it will steal our peace of mind even though we possess the peace within our new person. Simply the battle is always flesh and spirit!
"God will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him."* This can also mean, whose mind stops at God and this means a complete and unconditional dependency on God, concentrated, occupied and leaning totally on Him, the best way to do this is to keep our mind on His word.
The fruit of the Spirit concerning peace is an area we all need to have our mind renewed too. Because of misunderstandings, many have not understood and in turn never find the true meaning of peace from the perspective of their position in God.
Many times we are guilty of try to find something that God has already placed within us, but don't know how to get it to work on the outside where we live. All we need to do is renew our mind to who we are in God, and then by His grace we can apply this to our life in this world.
As we begin to discern and understand that we already possess the character of peace, and that God has made peace with us then and only then will we stop striving to achieve peace and let God's peace have its perfect way.
So remember God will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him

Chapter 3

The Guiding of Peace

"The peace of God which surpasses all understanding will
guard your heart and minds through Christ Jesus."*
Often we can't always explain the working of peace because God is so endless while man is so limited. Yet God in His considerate love has allowed mankind to see Him through His Word and placed within him by regeneration the communication tools to communicate His will and purpose, and one of the communicating tool is peace!
"And let the peace, soul harmony which comes from God rule, act as umpire continually in your hearts deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state to which as members of one body you were also called to live.”*
The word "rule" is translated from the Greek word; "Brabeuo." It was used in the New Testament to articulate an athletic event or a court proceeding. The word emphasizes a decision made in court arbitration, or to act as a decider in a sporting event, such as a referee or umpire.
To say, "Let the peace of God rule our hearts,"* means that peace, which is the arbitrator or referee, will make the decision in its respective areas of authority it asked to rule. In other words, peace will settle the conflict, and then bring it to adjustment. Now peace must be allowed to rule, the problem is we let our cares, disappointments, fears and doubts rule and that's like letting the spectators of the game rule instead of the referee!
Now it is not really hard to tell when we are out of the boundaries of peace, confusion, heaviness of heart or disturbed feelings are signals that something is wrong. At this point we must be sensitive to the working of peace and then allow it to adjust the course and as the referee or umpire it will do this!
For example, in a football game if a player steps out of bounds with the ball the referee will blow the whistle signaling that the player is outside the boundaries of the game. Now the referee must be allowed to rule the game, if not it would be detrimental to the progress of the game. Peace is the same for us, when we begin to go out of the boundaries of God’s plan and will, peace as the referee will blow the whistle on us and let us know we are out of bounds.
There are times we face different circumstances or situations and in facing these obstacles the greatest dilemma is to decide what is right or what is wrong for direction. Depending on how well we have listened, pondered or studied will depend on the leading of the Spirit and determine ultimately the decision we make. Now this works in every area of our temporal life, if we are a mechanic, doctor or musician you need to have had proper information with understanding to make decisions.
To take it even further, our dilemma can be of greater significance because at times our decisions face more than one area of choice. In other words, we may have several areas that are right, yet we have to discern what fits for each situation for our good, this is where the referee can help.
Now the referee will only rule according to proper rules, which come from the word of God, as we are writing from an inspirational perspective. What we need to do is find the area of the word that deals with our situation within the boundaries. By doing this we must be convinced that this is right by allowing the umpire of peace to direct or make the decision.
The bible reads, "Be lead out with peace."* In other words, we must allow peace to make the call as the referee and by doing this we are allowing our life to be ruled by God. Again not our flesh emotions that only disturb our peace; this is how we can tell what is of God and what is not. By being in tune with peace, we will be shown what alternatives we can follow and then be led into proper direction which brings contentment and a sense of knowing you are at peace with the decision.
Now an arbitrator is similar, an arbitrator is someone who makes decisions in order to settle a dispute. Most times our flesh is at war with our spirit; our mind (soul) needs to make the proper decision. Of course we want to follow the Spirit but when we are faced with pressured circumstances it can be sometimes difficult to discern, this is where the arbitrator of peace comes in.
Now, let me explain that divine direction means the will in your life set by God. If you do not know God then you probably do not follow his will exactly. Yet because God loves all, we may be surprised to find out that even those who do not know God are in the will of God. In other words God is over all and in all and is in control of all humanity in some form of direction and decisions.
There are times when I speak to individuals who have no concept of how God works, yet I hear from their mouth how the have made decision on intuition or a gut feeling and have had dramatic results. Now I believe this hole heartedly that this is God because God is in all, plus only good comes down from the Father above. But as a person who knows God you have a greater advantage, you have access to the word and the benefit of your fellowship with God and the arbitrator.
The arbitrator will also keep us in God's protection, in other words, it will keep us from walking into the adversaries’ traps. Simply, our emotions may say one thing but the arbitrator will make the adjustment according to God's way. I know there have been times in my life where I didn't have peace to do or to go a certain direction and found out later it would have been disastrous. So by me allowing the unction of peace to rule as the arbitrator it kept me out of the problem and into its protection.
Now this is also critical when dealing with people and personal relationships, we may have felt we needed to confront someone but we didn't have peace to do so. Later we realized that this decision saved us from a disastrous situation in the relationship. Dealing with people is not easy so using the referee or arbitrator as a guide to and in relationships can save us a lot of pain.
As you learn and understand the working of peace for your life you will begin to sense more safety in your decisions. Your sensitivity to the leading of peace will grows quicker and more aware of your surroundings and circumstances. Their will be a confident assurance like a guard to your heart and mind.
“And God's peace shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Him, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in God.”*
To have peace rule in our heart is like having a military troop protecting us in the battles of life, there may be battles raging all around us, we may observe them, our mind may agree with them but in our heart there is an incredible peace or contentment. This is the garrison or guards around our heart, a place where we take cover and make decisions.
“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mine both its inclination and its character are stayed on God, because he commits himself to Him God, leans on God, and hopes confidently in God.”*
Today God has placed in us everything that pertains to life and godliness. He wants us to live a life of victory and be more then conquers. Peace is one of the victory tools God has placed in our hands and as we learn the guidance of peace, we will be saved from many troubles and the advancements of the adversary, the flesh!

Chapter 4

The Enemy of Peace

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through the Son.”*

The word anxious can be translated to mean simply worry, worry is one of those personal habits that are difficult to rid. It is an attitude; a mental habit formed within our mind that is the greatest enemies of peace, and it can be a contagious disease.
The spirit of the world is all around us and freely expresses itself through whatever medium it can use to instill fear and impending disaster, and understandably the world has every reason to worry because it faces many problems without any real solution. However, this should not be the fate of the sons of God because we are not of this world and have been called to a life of trusting in God.
Yet, I must confess most within the family of God worry. It is a well accepted sin, that is, if you can measure good or bad concerning sin. But it is unconsciously accepted as being on the bottom of the sin scale, yet it is just as much a sin as any other sin because to God sin is sin no matter how we color it.
The sin of worry is fear and fear is the opposite of faith. Faith and fear see those things as thou they are, but fear sees from the nature of the flesh and reveals false evidence that appears real, an assumption that will causes stress and a troubled heart.
Worry gets our eyes off of God and onto circumstances. Remember that the Messiah was a master over His circumstances, not because He was God but because He had the peace of God ruling in His heart.
When our mind is full of worry we will be in duress, thinking about and consumed with other thoughts contrary to peace. As this state of duress prolongs, the Spirit can no longer get through because we are incapable of hearing His voice and incapable of allowing Him to take care of the problem.
As we worry it causes us to change but when peace is ruling in our heart we are unchangeable, our countenance is constant because we are always looking to God. But if our hearts is full of worry, our countenance will change.
What is the key to getting out of worry and establishing God's peace? I believe it is through trust! We must trust God to the point that we can take everything out of our hands and put it into His, this means total dependence on Him and Him alone!
It is a trust that firmly chooses to rest in the knowledge that God's Word is His will and purpose for our lives. The bible says, “Lord, you have never forsaken those who seek you.”*
Trust is being settled in the knowledge that God has our future in His hands. No matter how bad the circumstances are, trust gives us the confidence that God will intervene supernaturally on our behalf in His timing and by His ways. Trust is all or nothing. You either trust God or you don't. Doubt is not a gray area or an in between, doubt is simply not trusting!
The bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”*
The son of God is our greatest example of trusting in God. He was totally and completely confident in His Father and leaned not to His own understanding.
This is brought out in the book of Mark "And a great windstorm arose, and waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why were you so fearful, how is it that you have no faith?”*
The thing we first realize in these words is that as the storm was raging the Son slept. He was not worried or moved by the waves beating against the boat because He Himself was full of peace!
This peace came from His confidence, trust and total dependence on God, He knew peace, He knew its working and He knew no harm could befall Him. He had perfect peace because His mind was stayed on God and knew the affairs of His life were in the complete hand of God, so He had no need to worry.
On the other hand the disciples were engulfed in worry. Their hearts were troubled and disturbed because all they could see was disaster. They were moved more by their situation than their trust toward God, so they were open to worry.
They saw that the Son was undisturbed, yet because of their fears and self-centeredness they assumed that the Son of God did not care. "Teacher, they said, do you not care?"*
This is a common assumption by many, because of one that is not moved by their surroundings or does not worry; they can be accused of being passive or uncaring. The disciples were doing the same by asking Jesus to worry!
Jesus quickly perceived their hearts, and knowing they had no trust, spoke to nature, “Peace, be still,”* and at that moment the elements of nature obeyed and there was a great calm.
Friend, understand the thing created knew the voice of faith. Nature understood the command spoken in trust, it heard the “I Am”* speak with peace and like an obedient servants the elements became still, calm and peaceful.
Today through the finished work of the cross and the shedding of His blood, peace has come to all of us. In this He is our peace.
The Son of God said, “My peace I give to you, My peace I leave with you”*
This peace is given to us, we have it! This means no matter what storms we are in, we have peace. No matter what the situation circumstance or elements, we have peace to make us calm.
As the sons of God it is the greater one who lives in us and He is our peace. That means peace through hard times, through opposition, through relationships, through trials, through tribulations. There is nothing impossible, He is our peace and we have no need to worry, no need to be in strife with God or man!
“For wherever there is jealously, envy, contention rivalry and selfish ambition, there will also be confusion, unrest, disharmony, rebellion and all sorts of evil and vile practices.”* Another verse says, “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace.”*
Worry and strife is an effective tool of the flesh, it causes offense, bitterness and hatred and its whole purpose is to steal peace from our heart. When worry and strife is in our heart, there is no place for God's comfort and when we are in strife, everyone around us will have their peace disrupted.
We must do everything in our power to make peace with each other. We must never allow the peace within our life to be stolen because of our differences.
One of the greatest tools of peace is to walk in unity. I am not talking unity as uniformity because unity must come from within. Uniformity is the pressures of the world to control but God's peace is a catalyst to bring unity to all. If we are at peace, we will not be in strife.
Peace is not something we can manufacture. It is something we already have in us first by the spirit, so our job is to protect our heart and maintain its presence at all cost if it's within our power to do so.
Strife divides! Peace brings rest. If there is anything that God asks us to labor in, it is rest, not to worry and allow peace to have rule in our heart.
Friend, you have a commodity of great value. If there ever was a time in history we needed the wondrous working of peace, it is now. It there ever is a time that humanity needs to know peace it is now. If you consider your self a son of God, then you are a possessor of this great gift. If you feel you do not know this God then be assured you do have peace with God.
Please understand that the day is upon us, that this peace, the world system does not know will come and the Prince of Peace will rule. For as the Great King of the universe has spoken “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and the government will be upon his shoulder and his name will be called wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace."*
This is the true gospel of Peace!
